WELCOME TO LIB 5!

Throughout the semester, we will learn how to select research topics, locate information using print and online resources, and how to evaluate the quality of information we have discovered.

You may use your home or work computers to complete assignments or, if you prefer, you may use the library computers which contain all the software required. Reference librarians are available at Reference Services to answer your research questions.

Tips from previous students include the following:

  • Get organized and plan a schedule of times and days you will work on the class.
  • The basic pattern of this class will include reading the lecture and associated links; reading the textbook; completing the quiz and posting a discussion post.  Week 5 has a midterm and week 8 has a final project.
  • Contact the instructor immediately if you have questions or run into problems. Feel free to contact the instructor as many times as you need to make sure you understand your assignment and can complete it successfully.
  • Check the class announcements frequently.
  • Check your email daily while enrolled in this class.

VERY IMPORTANT: Be sure to log onto your Hartnell email at least once per week.  It is how we will communicate throughout this class other than within Canvas. For more information or to access your Hartnell Gmail go to http://www.hartnell.edu/email-instructions-students Links to an external site.. Students will now only get email sent to your Hartnell Gmail address.

Have you ever taken an online class before? If not, you will want to visit the following web page and read an article to help you determine whether Internet-based courses are a good choice for you:
